SUMMARY:“What type of document is it? Reflections from two ongoing projec
 ts (d-scribes and aphrodito.info)”
DESCRIPTION:Abstract: This talk will present recent updates on two ongoing
projects. The first is based in Basel\, led by the presenter and called
“Reuniting fragments\, identifying scribes and characterizing scripts: t
he Digital paleography of Greek and Coptic papyri (d-scribes.org)”. The
second is a collective work under the direction of Prof. Jean-Luc Fournet\
, based in Paris\, in which the presenter contributes to the team effort o
f building an online guide to the papyri of Aphrodito (forthcoming aphrodi
to.info). Both projects had to reflect upon the classification of document
ary papyri according to types. The presentation will make explicit the und
erlying goals below the choices that were made in each project regarding t
 he “typology” they adopted.
